Radio Vanuatu Celebrates Golden Jubilee

The Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC) is celebrating its 50 years of broadcasting in the then New Hebrides, and today the Republic of Vanuatu.

The "Golden Jubilee for Radio Vanuatu" is being hosted by the Vanuatu and Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC) from August 2 to 6, 2016 at the VBTC premises.
Radio Vanuatu Golden Jubilee celebrations brings together former surviving and new staff of what used to be Radio Vila then Radio New Hebrides and to the New Hebrides Broadcasting Services prior to Independence in 1980 that became the Department of Media Services soon after Independence before being turned into what it is today, the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation.
VBTC was Corporatized in 1993 in order to accommodate and provide Television and FM radio services to the people of Vanuatu.
The official launching of the Radio Vanuatu Golden Jubilee took place yesterday at the VBTC by the Chairman of the VBTC Board of Directors, Johnety Jerrete.

He touched briefly on the history of Radio Vanuatu and congratulated the surviving staff of the former Radio Vanuatu for and on behalf of the VBTC Management, the Board of Directors, the Government and the People of Vanuatu.
He outlined plans for upgrading and modernization of the VBTC in the coming months.
The current General Manager of the VBTC, Fred Vurobaravu, also touched briefly on the history of the country's public broadcaster.
The Organization of the Radio Vanuatu Golden Jubilee is chaired by Elizabeth Graham.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, who is responsible for media in Vanuatu will launch the VBTC website and the public will be allowed to attend to view photo materials and some of the broadcast equipment going back to 1966, 1970s and 1980 before the new generation of equipment that are currently in use today in both the national radio, the Paradise FM and the Television Blong Vanuatu (TBV).
