Budding DJs have a new place to hone their skills - Sunshine Radio 106.5 FM.
Bayview Primary School principal Diane Raynes thinks it could be the first school radio station on the North Shore.
It is part of a new multimedia suite which was officially opened by ZM radio hosts Jay Reeve, Paul Flynn and Jacqui Jensen, aka Jay, Flynny and Jacqui.
The trio will also be returning to Bayview Primary in September to broadcast an Auckland-wide show as part of a top secret event.
Ms Raynes says the students are so excited about Sunshine Radio about 60 put their hands up to be hosts.
"They're loving it. What they've been doing is fantastic," she says.
Student DJs will be on air before and after school so parents can listen from their cars as they drop off and pick up their children.
The Warehouse donated radios so each class can tune in for the morning notices.
Student-run shows will also be broadcast during morning tea and lunch breaks with the rest of the day free for class use.
Ms Raynes says it was a "mission" to build the multimedia suite, which has been in the works since 2007.
Sunshine Radio will eventually be broadcast online so anyone can tune in.
