................................................................. ****Pacific Radio News***** ****Update No.1**** ................................................................. Wellington, New Zealand April 20, 2005........ Welcome to a very basic first update about the Radio Heritage Foundation and the projects and activities you've told us you're interested in. 1. Since our soft launch began on December 23, 2004, nearly 6000 visits and 80,000 hits have been recorded. These have come from some 50 countries, the top five being New Zealand, global (com/net etc), Australia, Netherlands and Japan. 2. People find us when looking for hundreds of different radio related reasons. The top five are: 1ZB, 3ZB, ZMFM, 4XO and WVUV which are all radio stations in New Zealand and American Samoa. ................................................................... **Pacific Asia Log** is Seattle based Bruce Portzer's 100+ page long database of mediumwave (AM) radio stations from Afghanistan to Alaska and beyond. Contains thousands of entries and heaps of station info and it's now exclusively on-line at www.radioheritage.net. Options include downloads and on-line searches. Check it out today** ................................................................... 3. Thanks to a growing number of people who help with contributions. We've had boxes of radio magazines, radio memorabilia, CD's, photographs, personal stories and much more......we're a safe haven and should soon have permanent arrangements in place in both New Zealand and Australia for professional storage and access for these items. If you've got items you think will be helpful, just email us. 4. Did you know that six of our radio heritage documentaries have now been broadcast in partnership with Radio New Zealand International? These include 1ZM Mosquito Network 1944, 9AC Torokina's 1945 Christmas Hit Parade, 8DR Darwin and Cyclone Tracy, Contemporary Pacific Radio in New Zealand, Samoa's Radio Polynesia, and Niue's Radio Sunshine. ................................................................... ***We need a free audio-on-demand package. Can you help?*** ................................................................... 5. 'Behind the scenes' we've been meeting with Sound Archives (NZ) and Screensound (Australia) to establish working partnerships and common projects. .................................................................. ***Our webmaster is Harvey, assisted by Yu. They have a backlog of stories and items to bring on-line. Can you help code new material and add more to the site? Please write and let us know. .................................................................. 6. The hunt is on for the oldest Top 10 playlist in the Pacific! What's the earliest one you know about, have seen, or even have? Read more at www.radioheritage.net and tell us. 7. Have you read all the pages at the website yet?! You'll see we have some items 'coming in 2005' and if you think these sound like fun and want to see them sooner, consider volunteering to help make them happen! ................................................................... ***What can we do better?*** For example, we 'slice' many of our images into partial views only as a style choice and you have to click on them to bring them up to full size. We'll leave some images in full size with our next group of articles. Check them out and tell us which you think is the best. ................................................................... 8. What's coming up? Articles about Allied Radio in Batavia, Australian Radio Personalities, 9AC Torokina photographs, 2XT The Great White Train and much more....... Two volunteers with one hour of time each will give us a fortnightly issue! Are you one of those two? .................................................................. ***Thanks for your ongoing support and interest. Remember, we're a non-profit charitable trust.
